Care and handling of surgical instruments is a shared responsibility between the Operating Room (OR) and Sterile Processing (SP) personnel. Preparation for decontamination begins at the point of use. This presentation will share the current guidelines and standards from multiple organizations and explain the necessary steps for point of use, post procedure and transportation of contaminated instruments.
- Compare AORN, AAMI and the Association of Surgical Technologist (AST) current guidelines and specific responsibilities for point of use (POU), post procedure and transportation of contaminated items.
